The Passion Test for Business

Identifying the unique contribution that a company provides to the world is the foundation to the Passion Test for Business system.  It is a process through which the business can define, with what I call elegant simplicity, the unique contribution it makes to ignite the passion of everyone in that organization.  The elements a business can define what matters most in order for their organization to deliver its unique contribution to the world, this is referred to as the ‘company passions‘.

Once the company has identified what its passions are then, through a very systematic process, we show all the team members how to identify their own work passions.  So that the staff members all the way through all levels of the organization, from the entry level and more junior folks all the way up through senior executive management, can also identify their own work passions.  We encourage everyone to go through a process in a workshop which takes about a half day, to identify their unique work passions.  What it is that they love most about the work that they are doing and, more importantly, why they enjoy what they are doing.

Looking at why people enjoy their work is absolutely transformational.  Most folks only think in terms of their job and the particular knowledge and skills that they have or that they are using to perform the tasks required by their job.  The Passion Test for Business identifies the underlying themes that provide people with more fulfillment in their role.  In any given task, there are a number of different ways in which someone could find the work meaningful.

Managers who really understand their people at this level are in a much better position to work with them, to design tasks, roles and responsibility that are going to bring out the best in that employee and keep them motivated.  It also allows them to be more adaptable in their organization, helps them identify how they can adapt to changing demands on the team and gives them flexibility on how to leverage the talent within their organization.

In the following article I use a story to illustrate how you can use the Passion Test for Business to identify opportunities and make a difference to an employee’s perspective.  This offers the management a new level of versatility from their employees, and gives the organization new ways to utilize their talent and keep their employees engaged.
